The students enrolled in Mrs. Holloman’s Advanced Placement Biology class spent a day at the St. Petersburg College Tarpon Springs Campus biology laboratory. The students completed a lab to compare DNA fragment sizes using a procedure known as gel electrophoresis. The type of analysis performed by the students is fundamental to a variety of genetic engineering techniques including gene splicing, DNA sequencing, forensic DNA matching or DNA fingerprinting.
