Important School Policies
Parents/Guardians – It is vital that you review the following school-wide policies with your child(ren) to ensure they have an understanding of each policy, the expectations and the consequences, to both them and you.
Wireless Communication Device (WCD) Policy
Due to the new state legislation (CS/HB 379) and updated policies from our district office regarding WCD – Anclote High School has a clear wireless communication device (WCD) policy in effect.
What are considered WCD? This includes but it not limited to: cell phones, ipads, ipods, ear buds, head phones, air pods, laptops, PCs, video games consoles, hand held gaming devices, etc.
When can we use our WCD? Students are able and encouraged to use their WCD (cell phones, ear buds, etc) during their lunch break and while in passing periods. During these time, the students have the ability to take a quick break and listen to the music as they walk to their next class, text a friend to meet them at their favorite lunch table, or check in with mom and dad.
Upon entering the classroom, ALL devices must be put on silent, sleep or off mode and remain in the student’s backpack during the entire instructional period (Bell Schedule); this includes if the student is in the halls for any reason during any class period (restroom break, called to office, getting water, etc)
Consequences of violating the WCD policy will be strictly implemented and can lead to confiscation of devices with parent pick up required.
DRESS FOR SUCCESS
We are striving to provide a learning atmosphere that helps guide the youth at Anclote High School into becoming engaged, successful, reputable, professionals for our future work force and marketplace.
LET’S DRESS FOR SUCCESS.
Below is a clear diagram of the most up-to-date dress code policy flier. For more specifics, please read pages 32-34 in the Student Code of Conduct handbook. Students in violation of Dress Code will be required to change into appropriate clothing. Repeat offenders will receive a call home to parent/guardian and may result in a school appropriate change of clothes required to be dropped off to the student immediately.
PARENTS – Please ensure your children are dressed for success, utilizing the resource below for reference. It is not our intention to disrupt you, however, this policy has been implemented by the district office and AHS will adhere to the expectation and utilize our progressive discipline plan. This could require a change of school appropriate clothes be dropped off to the school for your child to change into.
Attendance Policy
When a student is absent, a note explaining the absence must be submitted within three days of the absence or it will not be accepted or excused.
Please include the student’s name, student number, reason for the absence, and a contact number. Parents, please have your student turn the note in to the attendance secretary’s inbox on the counter student services (see template below).
All unexcused absences count in the total to be put on the EXCESSIVE ABSENCE LIST. Excused, Medical, Judicial, or death in the family notes do not count in the total. Students are expected to follow their schedules and attend every day. Students must be present during the school day in order to participate in any after school activities. See the Student Code of Conduct for the district rules of school attendance. It is the student’s responsibility to know and abide by these rules. Parental notes may explain an absence but do not guarantee excusing the absence.
In the case of an extended or excessive absence claimed to be due to illness, upon request of the principal or designee, a parent must provide a doctor’s statement of the student’s illness. Extended or excessive absences are considered 5 in one month, 10 in a semester, or a history of excessive absences per period.
The following are acceptable reasons for a student’s absences:
- Illness of the student
- Major illness of the immediate family
- Death in the immediate family
- Religious Holiday
- Judicial/Court Summons
Parental requests for trips that will incur excessive absences must be approved by the principal at least ONE WEEK in advance. Pre-Approved Absence forms can be picked up in the front office during school hours.
As in the past, any student who has been identified as having excessive absences will lose privileges. The Loss Of Privileges includes, but is not limited to:
- State Competitions
- FBLA Competitions
- Pep Rallies
- Homecoming
- Prom
- Band, Robotics, and Drama Competition
- In addition, if a student currently drives to school and parks on campus that privilege will be revoked for a period of not less than one month.
- If a student requests a media pass during lunch the student will be denied until such a time as they are removed from the Loss of Privilege list.
- ANY SRA not covered above
- Student athletes on the Loss of Privilege List will forfeit their participation unless they enter into a contract with their coach.
Again, a handwritten note must be written by the parent and submitted to Student Services within 3 days of the absence or it is considered UNEXCUSED.
To help ensure notes are submitted, please feel free to use the electronic mach form – REPORT AN ABSENCE. This form is for parents only, and should not be completed by students at any time. Please ensure to fill the form out completely for it to be accepted as an absent note.
If you choose to write your own note it must include:
- Student’s First and Last Name
- Student’s ID Number
- Parent cell phone number
